Historic Lebanon’s Mission is to preserve, enrich, and promote our historic downtown as the vibrant heart of our community.

Our Mission

Our Approach

Historic Lebanon uses the four points of the National Main Street program to present our Main Street District in its best light.  We believe using this Main Street approach is the best way to achieve our mission of the revitalization of Lebanon’s Public Square and surrounding neighborhoods.

The four points of the National Main Street program are:

  1. Design

  2. Promotion

  3. Organization

  4. Economic Vitality

Our Work

In 2025 Historic Lebanon, working with its partners, will raise and distribute funds to support local businesses, educate the community, and increase our stature as a leading Main Street organization in Middle Tennessee.

Each year the Board of Directors approves a work plan with the goals and programs for the year. The annual “Year in Review” is our way to keep track of our yearly progress and success.

Historic Lebanon: Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future

Lebanon is a charming small town with a rich history, beautiful neighborhoods, and numerous sites on the National Register of Historic Places. Historic Lebanon’s mission is simple: we use historic preservation to drive positive economic impact in our community.

A thriving historic downtown is essential to Lebanon’s economic development, quality of life, and civic pride. We advocate for thoughtful development of the Square and surrounding neighborhoods—preserving our small-town charm while encouraging smart, sustainable growth.

Our focus includes preserving historic buildings, boosting tourism, attracting entrepreneurs, and creating a vibrant, walkable downtown. We envision a lively area with restaurants, retail, office spaces, urban living, green spaces, public art, and a walking trail connecting to the Music City Star commuter station.

We’re also dedicated to educating the public about Lebanon’s history through tours, books, and community outreach. As the local Tennessee Main Street program lead, we apply its four pillars—Design, Organization, Promotion, and Economic Vitality—to revitalize downtown.

Simply put, Historic Lebanon works to enhance quality of life and elevate Lebanon as a great small town rooted in history and ready for the future.
